Who we are
AlongKeep is made by PrimeRole, Inc., 2261 Market St, San Francisco, California 94114-1612, United States. We decide how the information described here is used, and we are the ones to write to about it: hello@alongkeep.com.
What the app collects
Your account
Your phone number. It is how you sign in: we send a one-time code to it on WhatsApp or by SMS. The code is stored in a scrambled form and expires after ten minutes. If you change your number, we send one message to the old one to say the account has moved. We also keep your name and the language you choose.
Your places
For each home or office you add: its name and type, its country and time zone, and the areas you name inside it, such as rooms, floors or buildings. Its address and GSTIN, if you add them.
Your things and their paperwork
- What each thing is: its category, brand, model and serial number, where it is kept and who it is assigned to.
- Its dates: when it was bought, delivered, installed or activated, and whether the brand’s technician installed it. For a vehicle, the odometer readings you enter.
- Its covers: brand and extended warranties, insurance policies, AMCs and service plans, with their numbers, dates and contacts.
- What is due and what has happened: services, inspections and renewals, visits, repairs and complaint numbers.
- Documents: the photos and PDFs you scan or share into the app, such as bills, warranty cards, policies and job sheets, and the text read from them. A bill usually shows the buyer’s name, address and phone number, the seller, the price and sometimes a GSTIN, so all of that is in what we keep.
The people you add
For each person you add to People: the name you call them, their phone number if you add it, their language, the places they belong to and their role in each, and what is assigned to them. Many of them never use the app; the section If someone added you to AlongKeep is written for them.
Messages
We keep a record of each WhatsApp message and text we send: the number it went to, what kind of message it was and what it was about. A reply to a WhatsApp reminder, such as Done or Remind me in a week, is recorded against that item, as a tap in the app would be.
If you turn on email reminders, your email address. If you forward a bill to a place’s AlongKeep address, that email: who sent it, its subject, its text and its attachments.
Your phone
A push notification token, so reminders reach your phone; the app version; and whether the phone runs iOS or Android. If you turn on calendar sync, the app adds your dates to the calendar you choose.
Technical records
Our servers keep standard logs of requests, including the IP address they came from, to keep the service secure and to fix problems. We do not use them to profile you.
The app does not use advertising identifiers, analytics or tracking libraries, and it does not read your location or your address book. It uses the camera only when you scan, and reaches your photos only through the system’s photo picker, which hands it just the pictures you choose.
If the app fails, it sends a crash report: what went wrong and where in the app, the phone’s model and system version, the app’s version, and an identifier for this copy of the app. A report does not carry your name or phone number, and we do not put your records in it.
How we use it
- To run the app: to keep your places, things and documents, show them to you and to the people you share a place with, and keep a copy on our servers so they survive a lost phone.
- To read your documents. Anthropic’s Claude reads a bill, policy or job sheet you scan or share, and you check what it read before anything is saved.
- To find the brand’s terms for a thing. We match its brand, category, model and dates against AlongKeep’s own record of the warranty terms brands publish, on our own servers, and show you which record matched.
- To send reminders before a cover ends and when something is due: to your phone, on WhatsApp where the person has said yes, and by email where you have turned it on.
- To send an invitation when an admin invites someone to a place.
- To sign you in and keep the account safe.
- To answer you when you write to us.
We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, build profiles from it or use it to train machine learning models. We never send your bills or policies to a brand, retailer, service centre or insurer. When you share a claim pack, your phone sends it to whoever you choose.
Text messages
The text messages AlongKeep sends are the sign-in codes you ask for. On the sign-in screen you enter your phone number and tap Send code, and one message goes to that number: by SMS in the United States and Canada, on WhatsApp elsewhere, or by SMS if you ask for it on the next screen. Nothing is sent until you tap. The only other text is the one your old number gets when you change your number. There are no marketing texts, and reminders and invitations never come by SMS.
How many codes you get depends on how often you sign in or change your number. The app stays signed in, so a code is needed when you sign in on a phone, not every day. Message and data rates may apply, and your carrier charges them.
SMS codes come from our US number; in India, carriers show a short number of their own as the sender. Reply STOP to a text from AlongKeep to stop texts from that number, and HELP for help. With texts stopped you can still sign in with a code on WhatsApp. Text messages from AlongKeep has the details, with a picture of the sign-in screen.
WhatsApp messages
On WhatsApp, AlongKeep sends sign-in codes, invitations to a place, reminders, and the message that asks a person whether they want reminders. Each one uses a template WhatsApp has approved. Reminders on WhatsApp start only after the person replies yes, and they stop when the person replies Stop or an admin turns them off in the app.
If someone added you to AlongKeep
Someone who uses AlongKeep, such as a member of your household or the person you work for, may add you to People: your name as they call you and, if they choose, your phone number. They may assign things to you, such as a bike you look after or a laptop you use. You do not need the app for this.
If they ask for you to get reminders on WhatsApp, we send you one message that names them and asks whether you want reminders at that number. They start only if you reply YES. If you reply Not now or Stop, we send nothing more, and you can reply Stop at any time later to end them. If they invite you to a place, you get one WhatsApp message with the invitation, and nothing changes unless you install the app and accept it.
To be removed, ask the person who added you, or write to us with your phone number and we will remove it.
Who else sees it
In a place you share, the people in it see what their role allows. Admins and members see everything in the place. People with limited access see only what is assigned to them, with the bills and documents on those things but not insurance policies.
A small number of companies help us run AlongKeep. Each receives only what it needs for its job.
- Twilio delivers sign-in codes by SMS and WhatsApp, so it receives your phone number and the code, and it delivers the message to your old number if you change it. It also delivers invitations and reminders on WhatsApp, so it receives the number, the text of each message, which names the thing or place and the date, and any reply. WhatsApp messages also pass through Meta’s WhatsApp Business platform.
- Anthropic reads the documents you scan or share into the app. It receives the image or PDF and returns the text and fields it read. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use what it receives from us to train its models.
- Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers reminders to your phone, and on an iPhone it hands them to Apple’s push notification service. They receive your device token and the text of each reminder. Google’s Firebase Crashlytics receives the crash reports described above.
- The service that carries our email sends email reminders and receives forwarded bills.
- DigitalOcean hosts our servers and database, in Bangalore, India.
- Cloudflare serves this website, carries the traffic between the app and our servers, and holds your documents and our encrypted backups.
- Google Analytics measures visits to this website (see “This website” below).
We do not share your information with anyone else, unless the law requires it or you ask us to.
We do not share, sell or provide your mobile phone number, or your consent to receive text messages, to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Twilio receives the number only to deliver the messages.
Where it is kept
Your records live on servers in India. Documents and backups are held with Cloudflare, which may store them outside India, and Anthropic reads documents outside India. This website runs on Cloudflare’s network around the world, and what the app sends to our servers passes through that network on its way.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. When you delete a thing, a document or a date in the app, it is removed from our live systems within 30 days. An archived thing, such as one you sold or gave away, stays in your records, hidden from your lists, until you delete it.
When you delete your account, reminders stop at once, and we remove the account and what is in it from our live systems within 30 days. Signing in again before then cancels the deletion. After that, copies in backups are overwritten within 30 days. Sign-in codes expire after ten minutes, and server logs are kept for up to 30 days. Delete your AlongKeep account says what happens to places you share with others.
Your choices
- Everything you have entered is in the app, where you can change or delete it.
- You can export everything in your account from Settings.
- You can delete your account from Settings in the app, or by writing to us. We confirm a written request with the phone number on the account before acting on it. Delete your AlongKeep account has the steps.
- Reminders on your phone are notifications, and your phone’s settings control them. Reminders on WhatsApp are turned on and off in the app, and whoever receives them can reply Stop to end them.
- Depending on where you live, the law may give you rights to see, correct, erase or receive a copy of your information, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. This includes India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act and, if you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, the GDPR. Write to us and we will help.
Children
AlongKeep is for adults. You must be 18 or over to hold an account. You may list a child in People, for example to assign them a tablet, but a child cannot hold an account. We do not knowingly collect information from a child directly.
Security
Everything between the app and our servers travels over HTTPS. Sign-in codes are stored in a scrambled form. Documents are stored privately and opened through links that expire after a short time. Our servers check every request against the person’s role in the place, so each person sees only what their role allows. No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
This website
The warranty pages on this website are built from the terms brands publish, and hold nothing about you. The website uses Google Analytics to count visits, see which pages are read and where visitors came from. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and receives your IP address, which it uses to work out your country and city. We use it only to understand how the website is used, never for advertising. You can block it with your browser’s settings or Google’s opt-out add-on. Your light or dark choice is kept in your browser and never leaves it. Cloudflare, which serves the website, keeps standard request logs.
Changes
We update this page when the app changes what it collects or how it uses it. The date at the top says when it last changed. If a change matters to you, we say so in the app before it applies.
